Good Evening Friends!
Tonight, I'd like to present the largest poison dart frogs we have...The Dendrobates tinctorius ''Patricia'. Commonly referred to as the Dyeing Poison Dart Frog.
These guys are one of my favorites currently available in the United States. They are most-commonly referred to as Patricias or Pats, and the yellow and blue colors are outstanding! I just love the wrist bands these guys have!
Most female Patricias are large, measuring in at roughly 2 inches, or sometimes a bit more. Male Patricias are smaller, usually averaging about 1.5 inches. These colorful frogs are native to Suriname.
An interesting fact: These guys were imported into the USA for the first time in 1999, Patricias are named after Patricia Grueneberg, owner of Vanishing Jewels, a exotics breeder out of Texas and a close friend of the exported from Suriname.
It is very rare to see any wild caught specimens in the current hobby, as captive breeding and selling are much more popular than importing wild caught specimens, due to major conservation efforts by many of the keepers here in the US.
I have yet to get this pair to breed yet, but love is in the air....I hope!
