Good Evening Friends
Since I have some pretty diverse interests, I've decided to try to organize my postings, and assign topics to specific days.
Today will be known as....wait for it................. "FROG ROOM FRIDAY!"
If you are interested in dart frogs and/or the species I care for and breed, then Fridays are for you! If not....Well, take a look at the pics, and maybe you'll see something you like!
Tonight's post from the Frog Room will highlight a wonderful "thumbnail" species, that I absolutely love; The Oophaga pumilio or more commonly know as the Strawberry Dart frog, or my favorite, Strawberry Blue Jeans.
^^^Great little snap of one of the two I have.
Oophaga pumilio are found in the lowland forests of northern Nicaragua through Costa Rica to western Panama.
These guys feed primarily on spiders, ants, termites and other small invertebrates in the wild. Great eyesight allows them to capture prey with their sticky tongues. These little guys are rarely over 1", fully grown, hence the nickname "thumbnail."
^^^A rare sight- My female out in the open and posing for me!
Dart frogs are difficult to maintain in captivity. O. pumilio has long been considered one of the more difficult species.
Although a challenge to get started, keeping poison dart frogs can certainly be a rewarding experience. My son and I love caring for these little guys!
