Thoughts
Game of Thrones! That was the very thing that pop out in my head when I first watched this anime. It was interesting to see an anime in which the main characters can actually die. It adds more tension to us watching. The amount of bloody violence, gore and how characters are being brutally murdered and executed also adds a little bit of darkness and coldness into the series.
But what is Akame ga Kill! all about?
Akame ga Kill! follows the story of Tatsumi, a young boy who sets out to the Capitol to hopefully earn some money by joining the military in the hope that he can help his starving village. To Tatsumi, the Capitol was his only hope. A place where everyone can live a decent and normal happy life.
But soon after reaching the capitol, he was attacked by a group of bandits and was swindled out of his money changing his views completely as he sees how corrupt the Capitol really is. With nowhere to go, Tatsumi decided to join an infamous assassin group called Night Raid who wishes to overthrow the current government and end the rampant corruption in the capitol.
Akame ga Kill! is basically just a story about how an infamous group of assassins called Night Raid, who each yield unique weapons created 900 years ago out of extremely rare materials called Imperial Arms, are to overthrow the current corrupt government. It tells the story about their hard work and sacrifices as they try liberate and free everyone from the hands of this sadistic animals.
Personal Thoughts
I have to admit that I have high expectations with this anime. I have always loved animes with dark themes, bloody violence and some gore into it. As I've said it somehow reminded me of Game of Thrones when I saw one of the protagonists dying. I was totally caught off guard at that and was immediately hooked into this anime and thus I expected more from it.
But sad to say, this anime didn't live up to my expectation. Akame ga Kill! started off really good but as the show progressed, the anime seems to focus more on who on the remaining characters will die next. With only 24 episodes it's hard to be emotionally connected to all of them. That is why when they kill someone off it just starts to feel that they are doing this on purpose just to please fans who love this kind of stuffs.
Same can be said on the overall plot and storyline. It was all good until they start to go off course with the manga. The last five to six episodes somewhat felt too rushed and did not make a lot sense. The battle scenes, art and animation, music and sound effects were okay though, great even. I just wished they have extended the total number of episodes and stick with the mangas storyline. Overall, I give this anime a 7/10.
