The story of Overlord is one that most gamers can relate to, so if you game, especially RPG, this is the anime for you.
The Story
Our story begins when the popular virtual reality game Yggdrasil, a RPG fantasy style game is shutdown. The stories protagonist, Momonga, decides to stick around until the very last moment when the server kicks him off-line. Momonga reminses about his guild and their glory days on the game as the final seconds tick on the clock. Then, it happens. The clock strikes 0 and the game is officially offline, but something isn't right. When Momonga has had his fill of nostalgia and attempts to log out he becomes are that something has gone wrong. He is unable to log out of the game. Furthermore, the NPC characters, which inhabit the guild's hideout suddenly seem...life like. The world of Yggdrasil has come alive, or Momonga has joined this new virtual world. Either way, Momonga isn't by this turn of events. Instead he gathers he thoughts and decides that he will do two things: become the ruler of this world, and find out what is behind this power that keeps him trapped here.
Knights, Monsters, Wizards, Fairies, Witches, Vampires and Trolls, it all seems possible in the RPG virtual worl that's come to life, and it's new Overlord...well, he hasn't quite landed on a name yet, it might be Ains, but one thing is for sure, the man in the amour is, the Overlord.
Our Thoughts
This is anime done right. This is anime about gaming done right. Honestly there wasn't a single episode or moment of this show that didn't entice me, and leave me wanting more. From the way spells are cast, to the carnage of battle, to the awesomely hilarious script. This is just good. Really looking forward to the new season.
