The new Hokkaido arc for the swashbuckler started its run in the October issue of the monthly Jump Square comic anthology published on Sept. 4, bringing back Kenshin Himura and other characters.
The series became so popular that it spawned a TV anime series and live-action film adaptations.
Set in the northern Japanese island, the Hokkaido arc had been mentioned in the original story and by author Nobuhiro Watsuki himself, but it never saw the light of day.
A two-part, one-shot episode leading up to the Hokkaido arc was published late last year to introduce new characters. One of them, Ashitaro, has the Mugenjin sword once carried by Kenshin’s arch-nemesis Shishio.
