I started this comment before...that must be floating somewhere in cyberspace.

Anyway...a great blog. I was wondering, is this the first epoch to be observed and recorded contemporaneously--because the changes are so rapid and dramatic? Not a distinction we should take comfort in, is it?

Mind-boggling that we can begin an epoch by marking the time when the earth was first covered with radioactive fallout. I wish everyone would read this blog and be impressed by the solemnity of that fact.
