I've been posting some pretty old objects we have around the house. Here are some newer items from the technological age that may be collectable in the future.
On the left here is a Logitech Fotoman that was one of the first consumer digital cameras from the early 90s. It could take 32 pictures in black and white at around 100 kilopixels. I got this in a swap for a Psion PDA about 20 years ago. It uses a serial cable to connect to a PC and had a DOS program to download pictures. I did use it back then, but have not tried it recently.
These days we have memory cards with many gigabytes of storage. I think these came with cameras I bought. On the left is a 4MB SmartMedia card from a Fuji. I think that camera did 1.3MP and was a big step up from the Logitech. I later bought a 16MB card for that camera. All my cameras since then have used SD cards and I have 16GB cards for my latest, which is generally far more than I need unless I choose to do a lot of HD video.
Do you have any old computer gear? Does it still work? Do you think it will it be worth money at some point? This Spectrum isn't mine, but was part of a batch of old consoles and computers that my son and I tested for a charity shop. They have since sold some of these for over £100, which is probably about what they cost originally, but more than I might have thought. There is a boom in nostalgia with people my age wanting to recreate their youth. Home computers were part of that. If you have an old computer in the attic it may be worth a lot, especially if it has the original packaging.
