Too many lame games and demos, game developers didn't seem to have improved in the past 6 years. For the tech part, even Microsoft Kinect 1 had better solutions for background removal.
Yes, I can play a VR shooter game, now what?
Chinese manufacturers, please stop building cheap all-in-one headsets. The jittering sucks, no SLAM, and Unity low-poly games just look bad.
Even the Intel presentation on Saturday caused a tremendous amount of embarrassment.
360 videos != VR
F**k VR social! There's some fun in there.. But not enough...
AR dragon catching game, laaaaammmmmmmeeeeeee, handheld experience feels stupid. That is not augmented reality, all you are doing is poorly calibrated augmented "image". What does the background do besides draining your battery?
We need a better engine for VR:
We should focus on the nuances of animation–in VR you can finally look people/NPC in the eyes and see the subtle changes in their facial expression
We need better algorithms for storing the virtual world with proper level of details, we need new data structures for retrieving and rasterizing the scene.
We need a better networking system to send data as quickly as possible, 90 HZ? 120HZ? Who is ready for 5G?
We need more badass developers to work on new tools and SDKs and sensors and libraries and new story-telling experiences.
We don't yet need cannabis influenced artists and dancers to turn VR into a spiritual, religious, hipster, philosophical, cultural frontier. We are just not there yet, someone needs to work on the plumbing first.
