Aceh's grave stone is a cultural product of the past which has a wide influence in Southeast Asia. The grave stone with the model, and the distinctive style of Acehnese culture has been found not only in the Southeast Asian archipelago, but also found widespread on the Malay peninsula.
Where it originated, ie in Aceh, it has been found abundantly in various plains of Aceh, exhibiting high art and culture.
Unfortunately, however, these heritage objects do not receive sufficient attention from the authorities so that, very many of the artifacts - which in essence, is the witness of history - that was damaged or lost.
NGO Mapesa, therefore, is called to participate in protecting and preserving this historical heritage. And every week, archaeologists who join NGO Mapesa, always work in the field to rearrange, conserve, document and conduct studies on historic grave stones that have occupied an important position in Southeast Asian archeology.
The following pictures record one part of the work of archaeologists in a village that has been abandoned for a long time, and now only left a name, called Lam Pante village, on the west coast of Banda Aceh.
