The stairway at my hostel in Yangon Myanmar is unfriendly to arthritic old ladies. You are not even seeing a third of it in this photo. I am at the top of my journey now. Where the stairs appear to end is one of four landings and not a cliff.
The door at the bottom is closed and the last half of my trip down will be in gloomy darkness. The two "lights" you see here are not lighting much at all. The second one is not a light, but a crack in the door below.
The black grates on each side are security doors that close after midnight for each flight. I used those to hold onto in the those areas as there is no railing in those places where the doors are. You can see the next set of doors if you look hard. They are not really stable to hold onto, but in those spots there is nothing else.
I was lucky that I only had to drag my suitcase up here once. On the way out, my taxi driver did it for me. But I did have to go up and down these flights quite a few times in the three days I stayed here.
Not one of these steps has the same rise as the other. Some are big steps up and others are very short. The railings did not feel like they would hold me if I fell, and the whole adventure was very exciting each time I did it. Going up was tiring, and going down was a thrill.
This is a place I thanked God that I am no longer obese.
