Wonderful historic architecture in Sweden
In the picture below you can see one of my favorite castles, Gripsholms Slott, built by a Swedish king, Gustav Wasa in 1537. During the years it has been owned by several kings and queens. In 1890 it was restored. Today the castle is a museum owned by the municipality of Mariefred, the town where Gripsholms Slott is situated.
I think the castle is stunning with the rounded towers in the beautiful red shades.

A great place to visit
There are a lot of old castles in Sweden, all of them worth a visit. But this one is in excellent condition and is situated by a large lake: Mälaren. The town Mariefred have narrow picturesque alleys with small wooden houses in a lot of fantastic colors. There is a possibility to travel with a more than 100-year-old steamboat from Stockholm to Mariefred.
I usually go there at least once a year; summertime is the best time, the small town is amazing on a sunny summer day.
