Hello Steemit community, Today is Wednesday so its #architecturalphotography contest day. To participate this contest, I have chosen the Historical architectural place The Star Mosque of Old Dhaka.-
The Star Mosque is located in one of the backstreets of Armanitola, Old Dhaka, the Star Mosque (Tara Masjid in Bengali) is one of the gorgeous Mughal time mosques in Bangladesh. The mosque was constructed by a Mughal landlord named Mirza Gulam Pir about 1711. At that period it was a small 3 domed mosque made with marble imported from Rajmahal of India.
In 1926 a rich businessman named Ali Jaan Bepari who was a occupant of Armanitola acquired the inventiveness to renew and refurbish the entire mosque. An enthusiastic Ali imported exquisite, precious china clay tiles from Japan and England.
Then with expert local artists, he ornamented the whole mosque walls even the domes with gorgeous floral and star formed patterns made of those valuable china clay tiles. In the white marble background, the gleaming etched stars and floral patterns create an enchanted and serene environment of light and shade in the mosque as they reflect sunlight in different angles.
The Tara Mosque is one of the few architectural constructions in Bangladesh. The mosque is still open for prayers and one can visit this gorgeous antique mosque anytime and any day.
