The story behind this photo is that it was a goof - the camera fixed the exposure on the window above. I took this as part of a series of real estate photos for my brother in law's house in Norwich, CT (USA). Below is a slightly better exposed version of the same shot, and a shot of the same stairway from above.
In case you were wondering, the house was on the market for a long time before finally selling earlier this spring.
