Fallout is officially heading back to television for a second season. After an astoundingly successful — and surprisingly great — first season, the video game adaptation has taken no time to get to work on Season 2 to bring viewers a consistent year-to-year schedule. The first season of Fallout was definitely an experiment on many fronts. Given that it followed the release of HBO's The Last of Us, whose first season surmounted enormous expectations, Prime Video tried their hand at the video game adaptation as well. Fallout didn't disappoint, despite following a completely different narrative than the actual games themselves, but that's what made it work. With an original story set in the same universe as the games, viewers have no idea what comes next. For those who want a superb television experience, they'll be waiting week by week for new reveals.
When Do New Fallout Episodes Release?

Fallout Season 2 was originally supposed to premiere on December 17, 2025. But Prime Video surprised fans on the Exosphere of the Sphere in Las Vegas with an announcement saying that Season 2 is coming one day early on Dec. 16. It's quite fitting since the new season will be set in New Vegas. Despite the slight change in the premiere date to treat viewers to an early Christmas present, new episodes will still premiere on their original release cadence of every Wednesday. The show will premiere on Prime Video up until the Season 2 finale (Episode 8), which premieres on Feb. 4, 2026. Viewers will certainly be ringing in the new year with Lucy, the Ghoul, and Maximus. As for exact timing, Prime Video subscribers should expect the Season 2 premiere to drop at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT on Dec. 16. The remaining episodes will debut at 3 AM / 12 AM PT on their respective Wednesday premier dates. But don't worry if you can't make that timing; episodes will always be available to subscribers after dropping. That's the beauty of streaming. The new release schedule is a change from last season, which was released all at once in April 2024. The change is likely because Fallout proved itself to be successful enough to trust that viewers will be interested enough to pace themselves over eight weeks. Although Prime Video will have to gain a lot of trust from subscribers after releasing an AI-generated recap video of Season 1, which it has since taken down due to backlash.
What Happened in Fallout Season 1?

It's only been around a year and a half since Season 1 premiered, but with so many new TV shows premiering in 2024 and 2025, it might be hard to remember what happened in the world of Fallout. To catch those up to speed, it's 2296 in Fallout Season 1. A young woman named Lucy MacLean (played by Ella Purnell) lives in a fallout bunker known as a "Vault." More than 200 years ago, in 2077, a nuclear apocalypse occurred at the hands of the United States and China, leaving the world as a devastated retrofuturistic wasteland. Lucy leaves her vault to find her missing father (Kyle MacLachlan), who was taken by wasteland raiders. Only, in the Season 1 finale, she learns that her father was responsible for the nuclear bombing of Shady Sands and turning her mother into a ghoul. Hank flees to New Vegas while Lucy takes the Ghoul / Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) up on his offer to find Vault-Tec's leaders to find his family. Meanwhile, Maximus (Aaron Moten) is knighted by the Brotherhood of Steel, who believe he killed Moldaver. Fallout Season 2 will feature the return of Lucy, the Ghoul, and Maximus, alongside Lucy's brother (Norm), who made a horrifying discovery about the Vaults in the Season 1 finale. While Norm deals with the discovery on his own, Lucy and the Ghoul must work together to achieve their own goals. The two had quite a rocky start to their companionship, and it might only get rockier from here. But fans who ship Lucy and the Ghoul romantically might have a grand time watching the angst unfold on-screen. This season is a very loose adaptation of the game Fallout: New Vegas, so don't expect it to be a one-on-one translation to the television screen. Additionally, Fallout appears to be following the tradition of bringing on star-studded guest actors in Season 1. New cast members expected to premiere in Season 2 include Macaulay Culkin, Justin Theroux and Kumail Nanjiani. These are the only ones that have been announced. There are likely more being kept a secret. Fans will just have to wait every week to find out. Fallout Season 2 premieres December 17, 2026, on Prime Video.
