Hi everyone. Over the Christmas holidays I had some time to reflect, and figure out what I'd like to work on for fun during the coming period.
In fact, I've already put together many of the individual puzzle pieces, although I am still trying to complete the overall vision of the project.
What is clear to me is the following:
- This project will consist of an in-depth fictional world that is evolved from my 25 years of game design and roleplaying world development efforts.
- None of it has been widely shared before, and historical parts that have been shared (e.g. through the Shiny Sword videogames) are going to be salvaged and only partially re-used.
- This project will consist at least one simple game, and likely multiple (and much more advanced) ones.
- These games are going to be physical, involving printable cards, tokens and/or maps as well as dice.
- Development is going to be driven by me in the first instance, but steered by you (the community).
I am still working out the exact mechanics of that last mechanism, because I think that what I have in mind may not have been done before, and I'd like to get it roughly right the first time around.
My current view is that the genre of the first game will be a CCCG, which stands for a Communal Collectible Card Game. In other words, there is only going to be one collection of cards, and you're all going to share it.
Economically, the game will be completely free to play and master. However, some of the of the world and game development activities are going to be powered by token expenditures (particularly activities that I have to delegate to others, due to lack of skill on my side). This is the part that I am still working out, so more on that in due course.
If all this sounds of interest to you, then please leave me a comment with any thoughts that you may have. I'll then be happy to divulge a few more details in subsequent posts.
