My body is my journal and my tattoos are my story by Johnny Depp
For generetion tattoo has been a part of Philippine culture. Tattooing has been practiced across the globe since at least Neolithic times, as evidenced by mummified preserved skin, ancient art, and the archaeological record.
In the Philippines the first people having tattoos were called the Pintados, it was actually a strategy during the tribal war to intimidate the rivals.
But even before it was highly criticized by many conservative minds as a way of disrespecting and defiling one’s own body.
For some, tattoo is an expression of their personality. It is a way of showing their love for art. Others see it as a part of their fashion.
Sometimes you and your bestie are simply bored and wind up in a tattoo shop.
But for conservative people many don't agree about having tattoo. Many companies ignore applicants having tattoo. A few people still stare at people having tattoos on their body. There are some who stereotypes tattooed men and women. Whenever they see tattooed man they immediately think he's from prison or a member of a gang. Or if a woman is tattooed she doesn't have a decent job.. Or not a wife material.
Many of tattooed people I know experience such discrimination. It is hard to get a decent job when your employer looks at your tattoo as a hindrance to your work, specially if your dealing with people.
Tattoos are just in the outside, it does not define who they are. They are people too trying to survive in this world with the best that they can.
