My Art
If you know me and have seen my work, you would realise that my art has one common theme. The theme is about Malaysia. I find that in every culture there is something really appealing to be shared with the world. In my part of the world we play all kind of games, have weird past time, speaks in language so mixed up that only Malaysians can understand. We call each other brother no matter what the colour of our skin is. That is the kind of art I want my audience to see.
My Subject
This subject of mine is a very special individual. His appeal in the show business was astronomical by Malaysian standards. He is like the Charlie Chaplin, George Lucas, Nat King Cole, Steven Spielberg of the Malaysian show business. He wears several hats, he is a composer, singer, actor, director, producer and actor. His songs are evergreen. All our childhood is influenced by his work. Some of our current Malay word is coined through movies that he starred in. In short, if India has her Amitabh Bachan, we have our Tan Sri P. Ramlee. He is truly one of his kind.
He is such a legend that even a road in Kuala Lumpur was named after him.
My Medium
I am old school. I don't use photoshop of Adobe. I prefer the brush, my watercolour, pencil and canvas. There is something very appealing in using watercolour. It is soft and yet impactful. It is very artistic. If I can describe it as a Black Swan amongst the white ones. It is almost immediately recognisable and it stands out.
I include my process in creating this piece of artwork. The picture that I used for referencing is also included. P Ramlee has a mesmerizing smile and a well kept moustache.
I choose to add an old school mike to the picture because it is almost synonymous with his career in the show business. This is the person that would represent what Malaysia is. Charming, talented, captivating and evergreen.
His appeal transcends all races and religion. He is a through breed Malaysian Icon.
This is me and with the compilation of my drawings depicting the Malaysian way of life.
