Calligraphy 101: Beginner's Guide In Using Calligraphy Brush Pen

Hey Steemians! For today's blog I'm going to share a tutorial on how to learn modern calligraphy using brush pen.

Do you like calligraphy but haven't started learning it yet? Then, this blog may help you.

Brush calligraphy is a great tool for beginners who wants to learn the art of calligraphy. It may be hard in the beginning but I guarantee, when you learn how to do it, you would see it as a great stress reliever, watching yourself doin it satisfies yourself, it's like a vitamin to the eyes.

Before starting, you have to prepare the materials needed. Since you are still learning the basics, all you need is just any blank paper sheet and a brush pen.

I use the Tombow Dual Brush Pens, easy to control and responds well to pressure.

Master the Strokes

The first thing you have to learn in brush calligraphy is how to control pressure on the pen. In holding the brush pen, hold it the like the normal way how you hold pens. The pessure you exert would affect the results of your strokes.

Let's start with the upstrokes. Inorder for you to achieve thin upstrokes, do not put much pressure on the pen.

How the tip for upstrokes should look like against the paper.

For downstrokes, you will have to exert more pressure on the pen

More of the nib should be touching the paper.

Combine upstrokes and downstrokes, practice it several times to master controlling the pressure you exerted on the pen.

Practice The Alphabets

It's like going back to your basic writing skills but for a different purpose and different pen. Do it again and again until you are satisfied with your work.

Do it your way whether its cursive or not as long as you are applying the rules of upstrokes and downstrokes.

Now that you know the rules, it's time for you to try it by words, sentences, or paragraphs whatever you like just keep practicing.

Always remember that practice makes perfect. Just like me, i did not started really good but with the presence of determination, consistency and more practice, I am able to improve myself each day.
