Let me start off by saying I am not an art gallery person. It is not that I don’t like them, it is just not on the top of my list of things to do. Recently, an art person encouraged me to visit a gallery on a small college campus. I decided to go and I am so glad I did. I was blown away when I walked by this small picture of a young woman in a hat. It made me stop and look. It was painted by Renoir.
The display was protected by a thick clear cover piece, so please forgive that my photo is not a clear focus. My pic does not do the art justice. Here is a link to a print of the painting http://artmight.com/Artists-more/Renoir-Pierre-Auguste/renoir-reading-the-role-251103p.html I have included the description that was posted beside the painting.
The title of the painting is La Lecture Du Role or in English Reading the Role. I was drawn to this little painting. The color, the composition, the subtle action made me stop and look.
What do I know about brush stokes, nothing. Upon review, my thoughts focused on the central figure. I felt like this lady is forming her response to what was being read to her.
To me art is so objective. It is personal. What touches one does not appeal to another. I feel I was enriched by the experience of seeing this moving piece of art.
Let me know what you think.
