I continue to learn to draw and use the book by Arthur Gaptill “Rendering in Pen and Ink”.
The fourth lesson of the book by Arthur Gaptill - tone. The tone can be typed in a different way: from splashing ink (a very “dirty” method of applying 😂) to neat, verified lines. Most of all in ink drawing I like orderly chaos, but this method is the most difficult))) You can think of any pattern and the tone of this area (of the drawing) will depend on how closely the strokes of the pen lie.
The points and strokes of various shapes and sizes, too, conquered me, but drawing them much longer than lines. And what method of applying tone do you like more?
The fifth chapter of the book is a little about value. For a long time I tried to understand what is the difference between tone and value and came to the conclusion that tone is one of the characteristics of color, and value is the tint of tone that determines the light-shadow ratio. The tone is static, but value is not, it is a transition from light to dark and back.
And if you look at my work on the lesson, it becomes clear that using a thin pen is much more convenient to work with Value. I can predict the behavior of the pen! But a thick feather often brings and gives a lot of ink 😂, although it is much more convenient for them to cover large spaces with black 😆.
All my paintings can be bought for sbd/steem
Thank you for watching!
P.S. It is hard to write in English, because my native language is Russian. But I'm learning. If you notice serious errors in the text that interfere with the correct perception, please let me know about them.
