Las Vegas
When we met you were dropping things out of your pockets like shiny coins.
I picked them up: confidence, humor, friendliness, intelligence.
As time went on I began to feel lonely without you,
And so we agreed to fill each other's loneliness.
Time passed and somewhere along the way it all went wrong.
We didn't grow apart,
But we both grew, in a space that was too small to contain us.
With a fence that you'd built on one side and that I'd built on the other.
We stood inside of our fence together and then we peeled our skins off
Bit by bit.
And said
look
look now
look again
do you love me?
And eventually we both said no or at least not enough.
And kicked over the other person's side of the fence
Walking past each other and away.
