Of course as any other Design student I had to practice A LOT of drawing and learn different techniques during University, realistic drawing/painting was a daily subject... I remember we used to have "portrait parties" on fridays, which consisted on making a portrait of the person in front of you during class... it was really fun. But since childhood I felt deeply curious about Constructivism and Modern Art (even when I had no idea what it was back then)... This Art style was (and still is) very common in Venezuela due to the huge amount of Venezuelan Artists in the past who were involved with the Op-Art movement.
During the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s Artists, Architects and Cultural Institutions came together to bring a huge wave of modern Art to Venezuela. So I grew up seeing the work of Victor Vasarely, Alexander Calder, Jesus Soto and many other magnificent Artists all over the city and the country... Being exposed to this as a kid was certainly one of the greatest influences of all my life.
I'm formally a Designer, but on my spare time I like drawing and painting freestyle stuff, a sort of automatic drawing... Some of these works have been featured in collective exhibitions and even been sold (which was a nice surprise since I didn't expect that in first place) and in general the experience of sharing these "freestyle works" has been very interesting.
This Organic Abstraction (72x74cm) is one of those paintings.
It's made with Molotow Speedflow™ Cocktail Ink on linen canvas.
