Hubert Duprat is a French artist born in 1957. Work with caddisfly larvae began in 1987s. But why was he interested in caddisfly larvae?
Caddisfly larvae live in fresh water and naturally construct elaborate protective tubes for themselves from materials found in their environment. These can be leaves, stones, sand and everything else. On the video you can see the caddisfly larvae with the tubes made mainly from the leaves. The video is my authorship, made in a brook in Krynica Zdrój (Poland).
Hubert Duprat collects the larvae from their normal environments and then places them in aquaria that he fills with alternative materials from which they can begin to recreate their protective sheaths. He put gold, pearls, diamonds and other precious stones into the aquarium with caddisfly larvae. Caddisfly larvae constructed protective tubes from these precious materials.
Duprat currently has a solo exhibition at the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania.

Larwy chruścików żyją w wodze. Woda, w której żyją musi być wysokiej klasy czystości. Charakterystyczną cechą larw chruścików jest budowanie pancerzyków z materiałów znalezionych w ich naturalnym środowisku. Mogą to być kawałki liści, kamienie, piasek itp. Na zamieszczonym nagraniu widać larwę chruścika z pancerzem zbudowanym w głównej mierze z liści. Nagranie jest mojego autorstwa, wykonane w strumyku w Krynicy Zdrój.
Hubert Duprat łapał larwy w ich naturalnym środowisku i przekładał do akwariów z alternatywnymi materiałami. Do akwariów wkładał złoto, perły, diamenty i inne cenne kamienie. Następnie larwy używały tych cennych materiałów do odbudowy swoich pancerzy.
