Something about roses that always touches the heart, of everyone who come across them blooming in all their glory.
A watercolour painting of roses by Ada Fagan:
How these roses were painted:
- Liquid masking was used in the highlights and rims of the petals.
- When the masking was dried, the whole painting (both sides of the paper) was finely sprayed with water.
- And while it was still colour was applied according to the forms.
- First to the roses and leaves, and then the soft background.
- Always keeping in mind to play warm colours against cool colours.
- And interacting and inter-playing with complementary colours.
- And when the painting was dried, the masking was gently removed with a finger.
- And then lastly fill in the deals.
And walla! ... The painting is finished!
Tips:
- Don't take yourself seriously when painting, otherwise your painting starts to look stressed and stiff.
- Don't fuss or try to make your picture just perfect.
- Learn to play loosely with your brush.
- And to do that, let your imagination run away with you as you work.
- If it don't turn out as you first envisioned it to be, don't worry. The more you paint, the more your skills improve over time.
