Brea Reese!!! OMG my initial instincts were 👌👌 with these. Have I mentioned you get more ink for your buck with these ones?
Not only is the Black super pigmented and true, it also felt like it flowed differently to Tim Holtz's Pitch Black ~ though that can be due to the rich pigmentation of the ink.
Black wasn't the only one loaded up with pigments. Basically if it's meant to be a rich colour it definitely lived up to it.
Check it out 👇
Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red & Cadmium Yellow
One drop wonders and boom! Loads of colour! So much colour in fact that I needed to add more isopropyl alcohol (to all the colours, the blue especially) to dilute it to give it more dimension.
The downside it's the colours are so rich that they kinda stay the same even though they move into each other. Not really seeing greens, oranges or purples...
I would like to make my own colours with these later on since I have spare bottles.
Black, Slate & Fog
At first I wondered why even bother with slate and fog since they're basically watered down black.
The aha moment came when I tried the black and realised it needed to be diluted so many times over, and over and over to achieve slate and fog.
In the end it was simpler and easier to have those shades in their own, ready to go bottles.
Black on the left, slate in the middle and fog on the right.
It's a bit hard to tell but there is definitely distinction between the colours.
Rose, Ocean Green & Kelly Green
These reminded me of the Tim Holtzs but smoother. It's really hard to explain what I mean by that. It's something you need to experience.
Pigment wise it's as rich as they're gonna get considering they're all on the pastel side.
The biggest surprise for me was how well these three went together.
I honestly wasn't expecting these sets to work in harmony unlike the Tim Holtz sets, and for the first two, for me, they didn't give me the impression that they were meant to be used together.
This one however...
Loving the mellow vibes it's giving out.
Now that I finally have a true black I'm pretty happy.
The next set I've got my heart set on are the Jacquard Pinatas. I'm super keen but I'm in no rush.
Right now I'm focusing on my technique on tiles ~ which, if I'm being real honest ~ is kicking my ass atm. Everything is looking the same to me.
Next thing on my to do list is alcohol ink + resin. Now THAT should be fun!
What do you think of the Brea Reese inks?
