Work in standard sizes only.
It's much easier to frame your work if you create your pictures in standard sizes: 8"x10" 12"x16" 16"x20" 20"x24" etc. Frames are made in these sizes all the time and are easy to find. If you work in odd, custom sizes, you'll have to have custom frames made. If at some time in the future, you want to remove that artwork from the frame (because it didn't sell or you outgrew that style and no longer want to exhibit that piece), now you're stuck with a frame that you can't re-use unless you create another picture that size.
There are enough standard sizes that come close enough to the size of the picture you want to create. So why make things more difficult for yourself when it comes to framing by painting oddball sizes?
The only exception to this rule would be if you know positively that you will consistently work in a particular custom size. That way, you'll always be able to reuse that frame size. For example, I like to work in squares sometimes and have painted many non-standard 24"x24" canvases. I, therefore, know that I will always be able to use frames in that size.
I hope this Pro-Art-Tip helps you along in your merry adventures in creating art. I wish someone had told me this one a long time ago...it would have saved me a lot of grief!
Have a fabulous day today and every day my fellow Steemsters!
