Painted from life.

Painting Portraits
Probably the most difficult subject to capture in paint is a human being's face. John Singer Sargent, the great portrait painter and one of my role models, said, "A portrait is a painting with something wrong with the mouth." I think he said this in jest, but perhaps was half serious, too. You're going for a "likeness," and that's a damned hard thing to do well. I feel that if I can nail one I should kiss my brushes.
With "Ray," I think I nailed him exactly. At least, this is how he looked to me. Someone else might feel differently, and perhaps find something wrong with his mouth.
Have a fabulously beautiful day today and every day!
