Reflections in a Creek (oil painting)

Painted from life.

One day, while out looking for something to paint in the mountains north of Los Angeles, I decided to challenge myself by painting these reflections in the rippling water of a creek. It's like trying to shoot a moving target, but not quite as impossible as it may seem at first: water won't hold still but it moves in patterns that repeat so the "trick" is to paint those patterns.
