After my 2nd treeplanting season, I hitch-hiked to a cherry farm in British Columbia to visit friends. As I was looking at a beautiful lake I had the urge to paint geometrical shapes, the triangle in the middle that incorporated cherries and the “flux capacitor” of my favourite movie BTTF. It was the days before Youtube, conscious documentaries and the only spiritual book I had read was The Celestine Prophecy, which didn’t talk about “sacred geometry”. So as a math-hater it was funny I had to paint that.
I continued to hitch rides all the way down to Oregon, where I stayed 2 weeks at a meditation retreat of my path at the time, Sant Mat (path of the masters). There I painted the right side, which is about meditating deeper and deeper into my core, until reaching God Consciousness (represented by my Guru from then, Sant Thakar Singh). I know it reminisces an vibe, but it was a couple of years prior to finding his art through his Sacred Mirrors book. Then the left side of the board is a map of the dimensions of reality. My objective was to bypass the lower realms (physical, astral, causal n super causal) to go straight to God self realization. I was meditating 3 hours a day those years and though I had many moments of “satori”, I never reached enlightenment. It’s not that I gave up, but as I finished school and started my art career, life (and my mind) got too busy to meditate much.
This past year I’ve been doing mini 5 minute meditations, 2 or 3 times a day, after doing rapé (Amazonian tobacco snuff that clears my mind). But Aya told me to connect more to the source, so this week I started meditating 1 hour in the morning before starting my days. I’m not aiming at illumination anymore, I just want moments of no-thought or at least thinking that comes from a spiritual point of view, to set a good tone to my day and current life. #meditation #tbt #satori #skateart #thepath #work
