One of my favorite quotes is from Michelangelo: "Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it"
I apply a similar way of trying to see things when I think of design. I start with an idea and then slowly chip away pieces that I don't think should be there till slowly an object start appearing. I then slow down and chip more carefully, when I get the shape I want I just polish and fine tune.
The good thing about this method is that you don't lock your possibilities right away and start off by seeing a chair. It's better to start off by seeing a block and then you never know what you will end up with, sometimes it turns out to be an object you didn't intend to.
In this case I wanted to make a chair and ended up with a chair :) I am happy with the end result. The structure of the chair is beautiful but yet practical and ergonomic. Hope you like it!
