As I said yesterday, I thought it might be interesting to look at how art developed over time so I'm writing this series of articles.

By 8000 BP nice, ornamental pottery was being made. They were often fashioned like a stirrup on a saddle. They had spouts and poured easily. They were made of ceramic. The bottle shown above is from 2500 SP.
Cave paintings were developing.

This cave painting from 4000 BP shows figures in the desert. The people's bodies are much more rounded and movement is portrayed well.
This ornament from The Metropolitan Museum of Art is made of marble. It is a seated harp player. It was made between 8000 and 2500 BP.
Southern Europe underwent a development in living standards during this period. Ornamental art became popular for decorating villages and homes.
I find it amazing how the art of 4500 BP is as good as many of today's art. Just shows how talented artists have always been.
