I worked as a book designer for 6 year (2008-2014). I didn't joined any publishing house as usually happens on the way of book designer or typograph. I want to say few words about how i started my book working.
One day my mother talked with our neighbor and he told her he was searching designer for his historical project.
At that time I was depressed totally and spent all my rime in bed. But I desided to meet neighbor, only because meeting required just to go to the next door.
The following years we spent in the basement of our house or in the neerby cafe, talking, working, descussing our small business, totally dived into old papers, archive sources and other historical stuff... I never talked about money, he payed me after my work was done some money, little or a lot, i didn't care. Books distracted me from depression.
The years flew by, I hade graduated from my university, so books stopped being part time job. It took up all my time and didn't gave money enough. Because of my the rigidity i consistently delayed the conversation obout money. So my colleague thought it was OK for me. After long patience in the 5th year of our collaboration I started timid attempts to to express my dissatisfaction... So... I made 2 last books and he didn't payed at all! He promissed but didn't keep his promise.. it was not formalized, so I was not able to prove anything.
After my epic failure i disappointed in design and can't find a job to this day.
Anyway, I made some good books, so you can see some of them. Lately i'll post more.
