I am so pleased to have been hired by Green Apple Art Center to teach Cartoon Mania to a small group of children ready to hone their drawing skills. We will learn to tell a story by achieving a few pages of comic but before, we will learn to draw a few popular character designs. By comparing Felix the Cat and the crew of Secret Life of Pets, we will discuss how the shapes have evolved and become more relevant, keeping up with the times.
We will study cartoon hands by drawing them as closely as possible. This should help animate our characters since body language can make or break a conversation between two characters.
For three hours a day for five days in a row, they will have an amazing opportunity to grow by moving from practical exercise to being in the driver seat, bringing their own characters to life.
The tools were set out beautifully by the staff for our class which inspired me to do the #SEVEN77 challenge as soon as I came in.

We did some five minute drawings from Life of Pets, here are mine. In such a short amount of time, the focus should be the contour or outline of the characters. I am learning so much doing this, it is much better with a small group to brush up on my speed drawing.
They have such amazing expressions those New York divas of the free world. It’s really neat to see what a child can take away from all the sass.
Are we alone? is a question I do not have the answer to. I get asked a lot of questions where I answer: I don’t know. Those situations make for the best conversations because one can only speculate.
Pokémon actually makes me sound quite young since it’s still around but I don’t try talking about Digimon though. I wouldn’t want to ruin the effect!
