Hey dear Hive community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you had a day that was full of positive experiences! Today I would like to talk about a flower and hope you can expand your knowledge a little.
You can see here some pictures of the Iris flower and when you see the closed specimens it is interesting to know that it can go quickly until the flower opens and yesterday they were still closed and opened overnight. The flower received its name in honor of the goddess the rainbow Iris from the Greek mythology which is known as a messenger of the gods and that also fits very well that the flower is available in different colors and is particularly often found in its shades of blue. Iris flowers are also widespread in art and already in ancient Egypt there are traces from the 18th Dynasty during the reign of Pharaoh Thutmose of murals in which this flower can be seen. It has also gained a high status in the Middle Ages and was often cultivated at that time and the importance in the Middle Ages is often found in different coats of arms and also the well-known ruler from the Carolingian dynasty Charlemagne who was considered a great friend of flowers strongly promoted this topic and cultivated the species Iris sibirica in particular. The appearance of the plant is somewhat reminiscent of the grip of a sword and therefore it was often associated with chivalry or pain created by weapons. It is also often found in the art of the Middle Ages and later it has particularly shaped the Art Nouveau and some well-known artists like Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890) have chosen the iris as a motif and there are numerous vases, paintings, sculptures or other works of art where the beauty of the plant is expressed. Croatia is even so convinced of it that it was chosen as the national flower there and also in Asia it has an important meaning and in Japan and China it is sometimes used for celebrations and has achieved a special meaning there. From a symbolic point of view, it is good that it is associated with a messenger of the gods and if you give away the flower, this can be considered a sign of loyalty or grace as well as a sign of affection and the symbolism is far-reaching and it is also often associated with wisdom or creativity. Not to be neglected is also the ecological benefit and often it also offers some insects such as bees, bumblebees and other insects a great source of food.
Thank you very much for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about nature! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
