After drawing mostly portraits I thought it would be good to try to draw animals as well. My first animal drawing was a cat not because I love cats (I don't) but because it looked easy. My favorite animals are dogs, so here's my very first attempt at drawing a dog. It's a German shepherd or an Alsatian.
First I wanted a Labrador or another breed but the tutorial videos available were not what I was looking for and I'll tell you why. A drawing like this takes time even for a real artist, let alone for me, I'm not even a fake artist, just trying to draw things. The videos you can find on YouTube focus on the shape of the head, which is great and then the rest, the fur that is the most important is done in 3 minutes fast forwarded.
However, my greatest concern was the face. I was afraid I may get a fox or a pig or who knows what animal. This is why I had to redo the nose several times, I think it was 5 or 6 but I'm not complaining.
At this point it looked like a Husky because of the eyes and lack of fur :)
This was the time when i knew i can make something out of it that I might like, although the neck was also a problem.
So the drawing is finished and I'm pretty sure it's not the last one. Drawing fur is not so hard if you have the discipline of respecting the rules and the patience to spend a couple of hours with it.
This is the video tutorial I used.
