As probably none of you know, I am a goldsmith. I've always wanted to try blacksmithing, which is a rough cousin to the finer detailed work of goldsmithing. This summer I got my first anvil, and set up my newb forge.
I used a propane tourch against a stack of fire resistant bricks.
In the picture below you can see the knife resting on a piece of metal. That is actually the metal spring I used to forge the knife! I heated it to a nice glowing color, and started pounding it on the anvil.
After hours of grinding the piece, I created a handle out of some wood I had lying around. The pins that go through the handle is actually just a couple of large screws.
All in all I am very pleased with my first knife. Although not perfect, I never expected it to be.
I hope you like it!
