Islamic art includes visual art produced from the seventh century onwards by people living in an area populated by or governed by the population of Islamic culture. [1] Thus art is very difficult to define because it covers many lands and nations for about 1,400 years; it is not art that is specifically a religion, or a time, or place, or a medium like painting. [2] A large area of Islamic architecture is the subject of a separate article, leaving diverse fields such as calligraphy, painting, glass, pottery, and textile art such as carpet and embroidery.
