Hello my artful friends,
The sisters from are having a monthlong art challenge about the Art Nouveau especially about the artist Gustav Klimt.
Actually I was planning to record my performance for openmic but my garage where I have all my gear is too hot to play in so I did the painting challenge instead. (Still hoping for cooler weather tomorrow to do my openmic cover for this week)
The first week we were studying his sketches mostly of the female body and this week we looked into his patterns.
One of the distinct features of his art was the use of a multitude of different patterns that either made up the background or were used to represent the clothing in a flat almost collage style in stark contrast to his very lifelike bodies and faces.
I had the idea to try and recreate his style by using my gelli plate and trying monoprinted backgrounds in multiple layers.
It didn't really turn out the way Klimt did his because they were way too messy but I still liked the contrast when I them cut them together and combined them to a background for my girl that I had drawn on a different paper.
Here are some process photos

I had a lot of fun and can't wait to keep studying Klimt for the next couple of weeks!
If you like what you see, check out and join the fun!
