FROM THE MIND OF AN AMATEUR ARTIST:
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME….
Canadian Native (Ojibwe/French) Artist, Author, Poet and Speaker Gigidoe Nodin Kwey aka Speaking Wind Woman aka IRENE A YORK ~ I have a great many interests and curiosities with a penchant for story telling (or the gift of gab – as some might say!) I suppose it’s only fitting that I be gifted the name/title of: “Gigidoe Nodin Kwey” loosely translated from Ojibwemowin to English means Speaking Wind Woman. How I came to receive this name is a story all on it’s own – and perhaps I’ll share someday! But it does have an awful lot – I’m sure – to do with my healing and recovery… Check out my videos on YOUTUBE for more information
I believe strongly in understanding and respecting the symbiotic connection between all living things & the energy that gives them/us life. I believe that energy works through each of us in many unique ways – from inspiration to function . As an artisan (story-teller, writer, poet and painter) I often find it challenging to NOT HEED the temptation of mixing emotion and logic inside my moments of inspiration – therefore most of my painted creations were completed while under the influence of Native North American Flute & or Drum music when I need to get into THE MEDITATION ZONE!

To claim I have a definitive understanding of my muse(s) – or inspirations would be foolhardy of me – since, quite honestly I never have any idea of what the “painting” or “verse” or “story” will speak to me – or to others when it’s complete! Some I like – some I don’t.
Pablo Picasso said:
“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls”
I think he was right! He (Pablo Picasso) also said
“The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web”
I was born a story teller, learned to find and share the mysteries of my muses through various mediums – From paper and pen (or digital now!) to canvass and paint.

“True art is characterized by an irresistible urge in the creative artist”
….. and so, I suppose “I AM AN ARTIST” I have spent my lifetime collecting notes, verses, poetic starts and scribbling’s of inspired wisdom and perception that I’ve composed and created over the many years ….. AND NOW…. I share them with you!
I might say that these paintings are a “Phase of Transition” – like ages and stages. However, here I am alas, still painting, still writing, still dreaming and sharing
Oscar Wilde wrote:
“No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist”
I hope that my art work or poetry brings some light into your world wether it be inspiration to paint or set pen to paper and allow the Manitou to work through you
