So a lot has happened in the month I’ve been away from Steemit, I’ve been published in a Christian artists’ magazine, my love of plein air (outdoor) painting has escalated, and we’ve been planting more trees on our little farmstead. Busy, busy times with my two boys in tow.
After yesterday’s #pleinair outing (in which I got repeatedly pounced on by my kiddos and had to scramble to keep my work, paints, and all kinds of art stuffs from hitting the ground or getting smudged), I realized I needed a better system for balancing all the little odds and ends that #paintingoutside takes. 😛 I’ve been eyeing the #pochade boxes on Amazon & DickBlick for a while... but I’m on a budget and didn’t want to lay down any green for something I wasn’t certain I’d love (they really need a “test drive” period for plein air gear!).
A “pochade” box is a box specifically designed to carry and store your art supplies, as well as double as a portable easel. Very popular in the 1800s and 1900s, “pochade” is French for “sketch.”
Fortunately! I had a box from an old nail care kit that I never used and was waaayy past its date (had to be 15yrs old at least! 😳). So I dumped the contents, snitched the box, and went to work! 😁 The backing board for my paper is attached to the lid with velcro for easy taping and removal of artwork, and my Winsor & Newton Cotman #watercolor set is securely held in with velcro as well. #fountainpen, pencil, and assorted goodies + my cut down brushes (I whacked an inch off the ends so they’ll fit nicely in the 6” inside space) complete my new #travelsketching paint kit. 🙌🏼
The bonus? I spent a grand total of $0 setting this up because I had everything on hand! #forthewin 🙌🏼
