George Hendrik Breitner was a prominent Dutch impressionist, known for drawing everyday scenes on the streets of Amsterdam with his friend and colleague Vincent Van Gogh. Somewhere in the 1890s, Breitner decided that painting was not enough and also absorbed the art of photography. Like his paintings, Breitner's photographs are more concerned with the atmosphere and movement than with fidelity and sharpness.
