Character With Dreads Sporting a Hive Tee
I've been wanting to design a character since I joined Hive at the end of last year and share it. I thought of designing a Hip-Hip-Hop character with a Caribbean touch.
The technique I used for coloring and shading were a bit different to the method I would normally use on Photoshop.
I saw a post by recently for an entry to the Splinterlands Art Contest where the process was shared. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Here is a little snippet of the breakdown of my process:
Step 1: Sketching
I sketched a character out using the brush tool and what I did was created separate layers for each part of the character so that if I needed to modify it, it would be easier
Step 2: Coloring
Here is where I implemented method explained by in his post that made it much easier and less time consuming than what I used to do which is the quick selection tool that allows to work on a selected area. I dropped in a Hive logo that I downloaded and put it between layers to make the fingers partially cover it.
Step 3: Shading
Next using the same quick selection tool as the previous process I shaded sections of the character using a brush and eraser tool and played with the opacity.
Step 4: Background
In this step I chose a solid fill BG, added some repeat text with a cool font and used the brush tool to add a layer of dark grey behind the character.
Step 4: Final Touch- Photo Filter
Lastly I added a photo filter and increased the default density and played with the opacity of the layer to make the character and the BG blend in a bit.
