I worked till 6 today, checking off another mandatory OT hour for the week. Afterwards I had to call Walgreens who handles my prescriptions to make sure what they are filling is from the oldest prescriptions. Last month I found that I had lost a month of meds because they did not use up the previous prescription, even though the meds were the same and a month of it expired. That didn't make me happy. How does a pharmacy not use up the old before starting the new? Nevermind really, there is no good answer, but now I feel like I need to call and actually speak to someone there instead of use the automated line, because automation has it's limits and is fallible too.
Anywayyyy.....For the last month or 6 weeks, I have been checking out my Goodwill store more often for things I might use in my art. It's not a big store, but I like to go and hunt around. I think I may have shown some books and things before that I thought I might use (tear up)....I know, that doesn't sound right, does it?
I was there last Saturday, I took a load of things I am cleaning out, dropped them off at the drive through they have, then drove to the front of the store and went in to see if there was anything else I wanted to buy. Drop off some junk (good junk), go in, buy more junk...LOL!!!
I had checked through the books first thing and didn't see anything interesting, so I checked through the home decor and then other home goods. Part way through I saw a guy with a cart that was putting "new" stuff out, so I watched from the next isle to see where he was putting new things. I couldn't see exactly what it was, but I shadowed him from a good distance and when he was totally clear, I'd saunter over to where he had been to see if there was anything different I might want. LOL.... yes... I stalked that young man. I just made myself laugh.
Later after I was done following that man around, I went to check back through the books in case he had stopped there before I ever saw him, nothing.... and the wall decor/frames and the such, when I spied this piece of stained glass. There were people near it with their backs to that counter and some folks behind me, so I snatched that thing up in a hurry. I was just sure it was going to be the fake plastic kind, but indeed it was not and by the looks of the soldering around the glass pieces, it appeared to be hand made and not something mass produced. I can always be wrong on things like that, but either way, it is very real stained glass. I thought it was so beautiful. It is 12 inches diameter, so a nice size piece. I couldn't believe my good luck. I know this wasn't there when I first got there.
I love hanging stained glass in my windows. I have a few other pieces here and there.
I like the way it looks with some of my vintage glass pieces on the table. I have a lot more glass and I will gather a few more pieces there eventually.
I picked some wildflowers out of my front yard before they got mowed. In the wild, these close up a bit at night and open in the mornings when the sun comes up. I was surprised that night when even cut and in a vase, they did the same thing! So sweet.
Last night I played at my desk for a while. The previous night I had made random black marks on old dictionary pages to use for collage later. I wanted to test out a new stencil I got from.... you guessed it... Goodwill. I put various pieces of the black and white paper along with a few bits of music to make a background. Then I stenciled flowers from the stencil in various blues and a little lavender. It didn't come out like I imagined...again.... but again, I did learn a lesson, so it's still all good. They didn't show up that well with all the crazy business going on behind them, so I ended up taking a white acrylic paint pin and going over some of the black designs that were between the flowers. The white was a little transparent which still allowed some of the design to show through. It helped, but still wasn't enough.
Oh well! That's what my practice journals are for. Now I know I don't want to do it like that again! LOL!
After I stopped playing with the flower page, there was still some blue paint left that was now already out of the tubes, so I grabbed a couple of sheets of paper that I had used before to clean off my paint roller and a piece of plastic floral lace that was laying on my desk and stamped blue paint all over what was already there. Yes... these look messy too, but parts of them will make some very fine collage paper for some later piece.
Last and maybe least, For some reason I liked the way the paint and webbed looking floral lace looked laying on the styrofoam when I was done, so I took a photo of it (on the right) my phone then flipped itself to AI photo mode and I noticed it was causing the artificial light from the lamps to look vividly yellow, so i snapped a photo of that too. Interesting I thought. It made me want to paint something that vivid yellow and blue and lavender.... and maybe I will soon!
Ok... that's all the drivel I have for this post. Hope everyone is having a good week so far.
