It's a rainy gray Saturday morning here. I stayed up till 3 am last night (or this morning) playing in my paints. It would sound more impressive that I stayed up to the wee hours creating, if it hadn't been for the fact that I didn't get over to the art table till midnight. I did have on old lady nap earlier in the evening though, so I was raring to go !
When I woke up in my comfy bed, still under the warm covers, mentally fussing for a few seconds that it wasn't sunny, all of the sudden I started singing softly....Leeeeet the sunshiiinnne.... leeeettttt the sunshiiiine in, THA suuunnnn shine innnnnnnn
That prompted me to think of the musical HAIR from the old days and I told my alexa to play the song HAIR. She did it right away and I lay there grinning to myself and partially singing along. I don't know HOW long it has been since I heard that song, but it has been a very very long time.
Then I got up, went to put some coffee on and came to see who had voted and talked to me here while I slept. 😊
Spring is around the corner here and along with the many flower bulbs that are blooming around town, daffodils and the such, the early blooming Bradford Pears have just sprung forth. This is the view out of my kitchen window this morning. Each year they seem to bloom earlier and earlier and I am always holding my breath to see if the blooms get frozen off before the weather turns more permanently warm as although it IS nearly spring by date, we have had some of our biggest snows in the past years, in the first half of March. It is not predicted at this time though and if not, this will be the first whole winter I can remember (not that I remember them all) that we have not had a single snow.
While I was waiting for the coffee to perk, I ate this Haagen-Dazs coffee flavored Cultured Cream thing. I think I thought it was yogurt when I saw it online and whim bought a couple to try. I goog'd it when I ate the vanilla one yesterday and found that although it is still "cultured", it is indeed not yogurt. That's ok though, I liked it just fine.
NOW... back to the papers ! As I've watched and read and all that, like I've said before, other Collagers make their art papers out of nearly anything papery. Back when I was gathering random papers around my art desk, I took out an old art book or two that I will never read again thinking some pages from them might become part of the mix, painted over of course and beyond most of the original recognizable state. Painted and torn to possible bits, they will become part of the art paper supply.
First I did a little stencil over top. As a note, after completed and looking back, I wondered if I should have stopped here !... but anyway... that didn't happen
Yes... believe it or not, this is the SAME page ! ....you can see that there was more stenciling, stamps and many swipes and swishes of other colors, which before the yellow dots I was totally un-enamored with, so it was late that night too when before leaving the table, I rolled yellow dots over it, telling myself that the next time I came to play, I would see if I could still turn it into something usable. The next morning as I went by the table, something about it said "peacock" to me and I decided that it was done. 😄
Also when I was originally gathering things towards my desk, I brought a container of paper bits where along the way I have randomly written notes or thoughts or... .whatever.... I came across this page from a notebook where I had drawn a funky giant flower in a very tiny pot as an idea for a painting for a child's room (that got started, but never finished) and I thought.... why not? ... why not make it part of the mix at some time. I was surprised to find, that I COULDN'T find a photo of it before I spread paint on it. I had not taken one! What ??? Oh well ! ..... I think bits of it will fit in somewhere whimsical sooner or later.
In that same mindset, I came across this page in one of my sketchbooks of ideas on painting a giant nutcracker painting. I had a good selection at the time of nutcrackers that I put out for Christmas and I thought it would look neat to have a painting to hang over them during the holidays. I drew ideas in my sketchbook of eye shapes and hats/crowns and the such.
So.. when I was sorting through, I added it to the possible mix and now here it is. I didn't do too much over it as I was thinking at some point I would want much of the original drawing to show through the colors, but the good thing is, if I should decide it needs more, I can always add to it.
A desk top photo after it was done, but still wet.
As a bonus, but not an amazing one....LOL...Here is the painting I started at least 8 or 9 years ago after the sketch..... that I have never finished. I no longer have a big collection of holiday nutcrackers, but maybe this year I will finish him anyway ..... maybe.
I am beginning to think on making my first little attempt at a piece of collage... something-or-other. I really only have bits and pieces of ideas, some bold and whimsical, others quieter ..... and I have thought I should decide what it should be and not let the papers I have made already dictate what it should be.... but ... but ... then I said .. .why not? I could challenge myself to figure out something that would use multiple parts of what now exists. We'll see, I may even put my hand to it sometime today.... on this gray rainy day.
I can't believe it is nearly noon. Even though I didn't get up early because I stayed up so late and it looks like early morning outside, it is nearly noon !
I hope you are all having a good weekend, however you are choosing to spend yours.
