If it weren't for the comics, I'm not sure I would have stopped and read it as long, but leaving the pages balled up takes up more room in the trash bin. I was glad I saw it though. I messaged the photos of the pages to my sister to show her my nostalgic find and when she replied, she said when she expanded the photos, she had expected to see a date like 2009 or earlier and had been very surprised to find current dates.
I know, there would have been a day I would not have dreamed of destroying any book, certainly NOT a cookbook either. Now these Southern Living books are in every thrift and resale shop that exists around here. These older versions are the best. In some of the newer versions, the recipes are the same, but whoever put them out was lazy and put all the color photos in the center of the books with page numbers to where their recipes are instead of putting the WITH the recipes. Easy to spot! I rarely use my books, but I am attached to the ones I have left and occasionally refer back if I am making something I have not made in a very long time. I like seeing them lined up on the shelf. It's like kitchen great kitchen decor.
