I thought it was still morning, but it is a few minutes after noon now. What happened to the last hour and a half?? When I sat down to start pulling the photos for this post, I think it was quarter till 11. It felt like only a half hour had passed. I had to crop and the such on the photos, so that always takes a little bit, but I had also jumped up and down, rearranging laundry, emptying the dishwasher and putting on coffee. I am already drinking coffee that was left from last night or very early morning more like. I had forgotten I had some smoked butterscotch coffee my sister had turned me onto in the fall and when I came across it again last night, I made a pot immediately and it was a happy little thing to sip on as I played at my art table. There wasn't a lot left, so I reheated some first thing and now I have made a new little pot. Yum !
I know not everything is funny, but one night this week, after I was asleep, my internet service went out for an hour and of course I didn't know, nor would it have mattered. The next morning though, there was 2 emails from my internet provider. One email said they noticed an outage in my area and would fix it as soon as possible, the other indicated the issue had been resolved. I had to be a little amused that they sent me an email notice that I had no service, as if I could see that with no service, even if I had been awake. Duh! Anyway, it made for silly grin first thing that morning.
Last night, being Friday night and the beginning of the weekend, meant I could stay up as long as I wanted and play at my art table. I had previously added the background papers to this 5x7 canvas panel as I had made the collage papers from some of the new paint I got recently, some new papers, a wet strength tissue paper and some packing paper from Dollar tree. I had not made whole sheets, just some small snippets one evening. Part of the design had been made with some also new, net mesh floral wrapping paper that is not paper, but plastic pretty much. I saw a youtube artist use some and so when my next amazon order when out, I added some of that too. Like many times, I didn't know what I was going to do with it when I glued the background papers on, but last night, this is how I finished it.... well... I "think" it is finished. I like this one.
This one I worked on a few times before. The initial three pieces of background paper were nice, but once on, it refused to tell me what else it wanted, so over the last week, a time or two I added stuff trying to make it go in some decent direction. Sometimes it got better, sometimes it got worse and this is how it ended up last night. I am not really pleased with it and it is possible that some other large piece of collage will go right over top of it.
To me, in the photo, the gold that I had on tissue paper and glued over top of the blue designs looks more like something messy got smudged all over it. THAT... wasn't my vision of it before I put it on. LOL !
It was supposed to add a little shiny goodness, more like what it looks like in this photo where I held it up where the light could hit it differently and the reflection shows more of an effect that I thought would show overall, but.... no. The gold, white and blue should have worked well together, but that's the way it goes sometimes.
This was one other little over-sized playing card that I had been working on off and on. It too started out with nice papers, but kept going sideways as I attempting to make it come together a few times. In the end last night, I told it that was it's final chance. I decided near the last to put a word on it. I have not used words much in my art yet. I will play with it a little more though, not on this piece, but on some future things.
FAITH.....I love that word and what it means to me. The ones that I make on these playing cards that I turn out to be pleased with, will probably become easter eggs.... not for Easter really, but just art that is left randomly here and there for others to find.
After I happily fought with those pieces, I was in my mental happy space, so I decided to take a few of the solid colored painted papers I had made for collaging last week and put some stencil designs on them to kick them up a notch. I made the solid on purpose to begin with, because sometimes when you are putting collages together, you need a solid colored piece here and there just for contrast or to break up a too-busy design. I didn't know I was going to do this to some of them, but it is normal for me to make things up as I go along.
Below is what I ended up with. This one has some fun areas. Of course since they are being made for collaging, they will be torn up and bits used here and there.
Collage paper 2
Collage paper 3
Collage paper 4 - On this one, some random string was on my table and I had just used some blue paint, so I rolled the string around in the blue paint and then spread it out a little over the yellow paper, then I took a blotting paper, laid it on top of the string and rubbed around. The center part is what happened when I did that. The smishes on the edges are what I did after. I balled up the string that still had wet blue paint on it and dabbed it around the sides.
This was actually the first collage paper I played with last night. It came out so colorful that it enticed me to do the others. I downloaded all the collage paper photos at once and it loaded them out of order, but.... whatever... right? I loved the contrasts of the warm colors on top of the cool background.
The morning after shot of some of the stencils I used. I love photos like this.
I emailed my Mom this morning to tell her I had some pork ribs I was going to cook for tomorrow's lunch for us if she was going to be there, only to have her respond that she had been invited to a Great Grandson's 12th birthday party and has somehow forgot to tell me. Of course that is ok. Sunday doesn't belong to me and I'm glad there are family things for her to go to. How many people get to have their Great Grandmother at their birthday party when they turn 12?? I'm thinking not that many. I'm so glad some of the Great Grandchildren are getting a chance to know her. It will add great things to their childhood memories for the rest of their lives.
You know it is spring for sure, when on a sunny Saturday morning, you hear the sound of a very loud group of motorcycles roaring past your house for two minutes solid. 😂 Yep, it's a beautiful day for a group run. I had to wonder if it was just for fun, which it is many times or if it was for some sort of cause, which it sometimes is. I didn't get up to go watch them pass, but my whole house reverberated the whole time it lasted. It was pretty neat. It also reminded me of a time past, where the sound of a loud Harley meant that someone fun was about to show up. 😄 Good times !
ok, time for me to get up from here, rearrange the laundry as both machines are silent all of the sudden, finish straightening up the kitchen and work on some organizing the piles for a while.
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend so far, I know I am!
