Happy Wednesday ! My work week is a little over half way over and that doesn't make me too sad.
As you know, I've been trying some new art, mixed media recently. I've been making painty papers with different kinds of papers and stencils and stamps and... all that.
Now I've finished (I think) another practice piece. It is WAY different than the bright little colored one I did before.
I bought this canvas covered, primed art board from Dollar General. I didn't go there for that, but there it was. My intention when I bought it for all of $2 was to use it for a test board when I wanted to see how the different kinds of paper reacted to being glued. I painted the board blue and then while the paint was wet I made circles all around with my finger. I "thought" it would be a long time before it was all overed since it was just a test board, but I didn't want to leave it white if it was going to be hanging around a long time.
I had also randomly picked up some small napkins with foil dots, tissue paper with gold flecks and large napkins with gold stripes, so these were the first thing I tried on it. You can also see a bit or two of the coffee filter I stenciled in green. They worked out well. The gold flecked tissue paper was the only piece that wanted to tear a little, but that was ok.
As I've gone along these last few weeks, I have found that I think my intentions are one thing, but before long they are something else, like what I will use this board for. 😄 I must be a bit wishy washy... yes? ...so, after it dried, I took my new acrylic marker and squiggled all over it, because I saw some other people do it. LOL !!
After that, it somehow stopped being a test board in the sense that I thought it was going to be and became the "next piece" I would work on for real.
So I mish mashed some paints here and there, green because some green was on the coffee filter, multiple shades of pink because..... well, it just looked like it needed pink with the green and blue and white.
It looks much better like this, doesn't it?????
🤢 ....but that's what everybody else was doing (whiny voice)
One little detour. I had another black and white event accidentally. How does that keep happening ??? When I had squirted the black out to make the big squiggles above, I put out too much paint, although it didn't look like a lot, so in order to not waste it, I started hastily slapping it on some more papers. They'll get used somewhere some time, I told myself.
...and sure enough, one of them jumped onto my art board. I used a piece I had made and showed you before also, but the sloppy circle one was new. I also used some of the other painty paper I made with the pink and yellow bubble wrap design.
I added a few smaller pieces of the black circle paper to the bottom and right side to help the balance.
So now there had been a layer of paint, tissue papers with metallics, more random paint and now more papers.
Layers !!
I little bit of everything is still peaking through somewhere.
I thought the big black and white piece on the left needed some interruption, so I put another piece of gold flecked tissue down the middle of it
Now... what else? I smidged around in the paint in the lower left and upper right corners after this photo, which made them worse of a mess and I struggled to pull them back together. The top corner got some more metallic gold dots finally. If all else fails, cover it up... right ??? (see photo below this one for the gold circles)
Here's one thing I found interesting, at least to my eyes, when I was sitting across the room, the parts of the piece stood out differently than close up. Close up, it's pretty much a full on mess, but getting away from it a little makes different shapes dominate and other spaces look shaded and drop back.
So, here is what I want you to do. Click on the below photo so it will come up large on your screen, get up from your desk and run away a bit, then look at it again. Now...don't your eyes pick up the shapes and shading differently?
🤣
You did what I said, didn't you?
I think I just said my art looks better the further away from it you get.
It's ok to laugh, I have all the way through.
Ok... that's about it for now.
I hope you've been having a good week so far and that the rest of it is even better.
