I've finished this just now! An art trade with my friend. He asked for a blue tit drawing in return for what he drew for me.
The Artwork
Here it is!
Sevilla 2017
Materials: Fabriano 9" x 12", 200gsm paper, Simbalion 36 colors watercolor, paint brush small and medium, black pen, bowl with water
The Process
Before anything, we should keep in mind the following drawing/painting techniques we can apply:
- Light to dark technique
- One by one strokes to create texture
- Layering colors to create volume (for eyes)
- Washing technique (adding water to paint and spreading)
- Inking (to contrast darkest shades)

We begin by sketching!
ready, set, paint!
We start with light colors, be careful of putting too much water.
Layer midtones
Just try your best to follow the pattern of your subject
Darken outlines and shadows
Painting the Bird tail
Here most of th colors have been filled.
I put yellow, orange, blue and violet on the eyes leaving out a white spot. For the shine.
Then I ink the eyes and some of the feathers
For the claws, I put light violet, brown and inked it black
Background is a swish of colors, imitating the effect of the reference. Blotching the paint
Yellow, yellow orange, pink, red, green and blue plus white
This is freestyle, so just fill them up and done!
