I accept commissions of many types, including sketches. My pencil sketches are just as detailed as my finished work, but is more affordable and are lacking in solid black line art, colors, and shading/highlights. Sketching is a natural part of my drawing process, but for these illustrations I did not go beyond this stage. Like with any drawing, however, a good foundation is vital (the wire frame stage).
These characters I was commissioned to illustrate come from a novel called "Circus Phantasm". They feature a pair of characters that build unlikely bonds with each other throughout the story.
The Wire Frame
This first drawing features the two characters, Emma and Avery. Emma is a quiet young woman, with the Blessing of Telepathy. Her Blessing seems more like a curse, as she can’t keep from hearing others’ thoughts unless they actively block them. She loves her family, and is dubious about being a part of a circus. But, her brother was going, and she wasn’t going to let him go alone. Besides, she might find someone to teach her, as well.
The wonders and teaching opportunities the Circus provides soon draw her out of her shell, and quicken her spirit of adventure. She quickly strikes up a friendship with a certain fun-loving member of the Circus.
The Sketch
Avery is an avian with a quick and ready smile. Has “tawny wings folded against his shoulders, the tips brushing his hands,” a crest of feathers on his head, a freckled face, and tanned skin. He’s always charming, but Emma seems to bring out his smile and teasing wit more often than others. His backstory is a bit sad, but he doesn't let that stop him from finding the fun in life.
The Wire Frame
The second drawing features Nemo and Lian. Nemo is a lanky teen boy with bleached white hair and the Blessing of Voice. With his Voice, simply singing is an act of power; in addition to making the song seem more alive to his audience, he can bend the wills of others to his. He’s a teenager, though, so despite this power, he has some uncertainties (mainly on how well he can fare as a dragon’s student).
He’s also not above using his power for petty things, like keeping his father from talking (they have a distressed relationship). With a love of music and a passion for acting, he fits right in with the Circus Phantasm.
The Sketch
Lian is a Phantasm, with dark hair, deep brown eyes, and a penchant for trickery (she also has the Blessing of shapeshifting). She likes secrets, and as an apprentice to a mage has enormous power. Is slim, and has pale skin (in the book her face is described as “a pale moon”). She took a liking to Nemo and his music, and often has him sing her to sleep. Though, this was when she disguised herself as a fruit bat.
