Here’s a John William Waterhouse master copy I finished today.

Greetings and salutations Everyone!

In this post I wanted to share and discuss this tiny (5” x 7”) John William Waterhouse master copy I finished today.

I would say that while this drawing was pretty fun, it was also very tricky in the sense of achieving her likeness. I noted that I had to pay special attention to contours and lost edges as this one was a little more illustrative as compared to the recent Russian academic drawings I’ve been working with.

While constructing the block in, I also made sure to initially mass in the shadow shapes darker than they appeared as reflected light tends to look brighter than it really is early in the drawing. I have to say that working on the hair is the part I enjoyed the most.
